The Uzbek President Discusses with the Pakistani Prime Minister Issues on Further Developing the Multifaceted Cooperation

On September 20, on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the Acting Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Anwar ul-Haq Kakar.

During the talks, issues of further strengthening of Uzbek-Pakistani strategic partnership relations and the development of multifaceted cooperation, primarily in trade, economic, investment, transport and communication spheres, were discussed.

The parties welcomed the mutual trade indicators – by 75% since the beginning of the year. During this period, the volume of cargo transportation increased by 50%, 20 new joint ventures were opened.

The Head of our State stressed the importance of continuing work on creating favorable conditions to increase trade turnover within the framework of the Preferential Trade Agreement.

It was noted that there is a great potential for expanding productive cooperation between the regions of the two countries and developing cooperative ties. The prospects for the implementation of joint investment projects in the textile, pharmaceutical, electrical  and tourism industries were also considered.

The sides exchanged views on issues of ensuring regional security, including in the context of the development of the situation in Afghanistan.

The importance of joint efforts in the practical promotion of the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project was emphasized.
