On November 27, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from Saudi Arabia led by the Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Khalid Al-Falih.
During the meeting, topical issues of further development of multi-faceted cooperation and comprehensive partnership between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia were discussed, including practical implementation of high-level agreements.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Investment conveyed to the Leader of Uzbekistan sincere greetings and best wishes of the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Crown Prince, Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
The President of our country expressed great satisfaction with the dynamic development of mutually beneficial cooperation in recent years.
There has been an increase in mutual trade, Saudi direct investment in the Uzbek economy, particularly in the green energy sector, and the frequency of direct flights.
A number of socially significant projects in health, education, water and other sectors are being implemented with the support of the Saudi Development Fund.
A joint fund is being established to expand economic opportunities in Uzbekistan.
During the current visit of the Saudi delegation, agreements were signed for the implementation of mutually beneficial projects in the fields of chemicals, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, IT and infrastructure development worth $12 billion.
The importance of accelerating the implementation of large-scale energy projects in various regions of our country was emphasized.
An agreement was also reached to promote new projects and programmes worth a total of $11 billion in the areas of transport infrastructure, municipal services, geology, irrigation, waste management, higher education and labour migration.
Special emphasis was placed on the fruitful partnership with ACWA Power, the largest investor and strategic partner in the development of green energy in Uzbekistan. The company is currently implementing projects worth $8 billion.
The President of our country welcomed the launch of the modern 1.5 gigawatt thermal power plant in the Syrdarya region and the start of construction of a pilot plant for the production of “green hydrogen” in the Tashkent region.
A ceremony was also held to award Minister Khalid Al-Falih with the Order of Friendship for his significant contribution and comprehensive support to the development of multi-faceted and mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia.
