Pharmaceutical Sector Streamlined with Additional Instructions

31 Jan 2024

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the regulation of the pharmaceutical sector and the provision of high quality and safe medicines to the population.

The world is witnessing the growth of the pharmaceutical industry and the emergence of new types and formulations of medicines. This makes it necessary to constantly monitor their quality and identify and analyse side effects.

On January 23, the President signed the Decree “On additional measures to regulate the pharmaceutical industry”.

Organizations that produce and sell medicines and medical devices are responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of their products. Special rules of state control will be established for them.

A system will be set up to rapidly identify and respond to risks associated with the use of medicines. To this end, the Good Pharmacovigilance Practices (GVP) standard will be introduced and an electronic database on adverse drug reactions will be created at the Ministry of Health. Health workers and the public will be informed promptly of such actions.

Customs and free warehouses where medicines and medical supplies are stored will be gradually brought into compliance with the requirements of the Good Storage Practice (GSP) regulations. The Centre of Good Practices under the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry will be transformed into a government agency.

Advertising of medicines and food supplements on television and radio channels will be allowed only on the basis of the conclusions of a special council to be established under the Ministry of Health.

The Head of State gave additional instructions on the organisation of the effective implementation of the decree, pointing out the importance of regulating the sector for the health of the population and the economy.
