During his visit to the Andijan Industrial Hub, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was shown an exhibition of furniture produced in the region.
There are 377 furniture enterprises operating in Andijan region. Over the past five years, 84 investment projects worth US$35 million have been implemented in this sector, creating more than three thousand jobs. The volume of furniture production has increased 15 times compared to 2016.
Various tax and customs concessions have been introduced for furniture manufacturers, and the costs of exports and salaries of specialists recruited from abroad have been partially compensated, which is becoming a great incentive for representatives of the industry.
Today, 300 billion Uzbek soums of furniture are produced annually and exported to countries in the region.
The President talked to the founders of the companies.
“One of the most important achievements of recent years has been the change in our entrepreneurs’ consciousness, the strengthening of their confidence. Today they are competitive and entering the world market. They started their activities with a simple makhalla. Others can do it as well,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Measures to support entrepreneurship and employment were also discussed.
41 makhallas specialise in furniture production in Andijan region. For instance, in Ijtimoyat makhalla, Oltinkol district, 490 households produce furniture on a cooperative basis. There are also many self-employed artisans and individual entrepreneurs. Thousands of young people are learning the craft in the master-apprentice tradition.
The region is therefore taking measures to develop furniture production. Two industrial zones specialising in furniture production are being created in Andijan and Oltinkol.
The President emphasized the need to study the potential of the region’s 909 makhallas on the basis of this experience and their specialization in profitable activities. The state will provide infrastructure, material and organizational support. The aim is to transform Andijan region into a region without poverty and unemployment.
