On October 21, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Central Asian University of Environment and Climate Change Studies – Green University.
Until recently, there was no single higher education institution specializing in ecology in Uzbekistan. The new university, created in accordance with the decree of the Head of State dated May 31, 2023, covers modern environmental areas.
Within the framework of the Strategy “Uzbekistan – 2030”, our country is taking measures to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This covers 17 well-being objectives in areas such as climate change, clean water and energy, healthcare, education, consumption and production, the achievement of which largely depends on the availability of qualified personnel. Therefore, the university has opened bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in such areas as “Environment and Sustainable Management”, “Environment and Economy”, “Ecology and Public Administration”, “Sustainable Development”, “Sustainable Finance”, “Environmental Law” and “Mass Communications in the Field of the Environment”.
The educational building, designed for 450 students, was completely renovated and supplied with modern equipment. The language of instruction is English, for which teachers from the USA, Great Britain, Mexico and France were brought in.
The President held a meeting with the university’s teachers and students.
– Today ecology is becoming as important as digital technologies. In the future, all areas must develop in harmony with ecology. This is why we have opened here such areas as ecological economics, finance and law. It is necessary to expand dual education and implement the acquired knowledge more quickly on the ground, – pointed Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The President instructed to organize technical schools to train middle-level specialists in ecology in Karakalpakstan and every region of the country.
The university has already established an exchange of academic and professional experience with foreign universities by developing joint training programs based on the principle of integration of science, education and production.
The university’s modern laboratory plays an important role in attracting students to scientific activities and enhancing their experience. The laboratory conducts research on soil, water, biodiversity and waste, leading to important scientific conclusions.
The Head of State also examined the laboratory.
– There is scientific potential and necessary equipment here. These must be utilized effectively. For example, it may be possible to conduct analyses on a contractual basis for areas with difficult soil and water conditions. This would benefit both parties, – said the President.
The university pays special attention to interdisciplinary research, innovative pedagogical methods and integration of research and practice. The educational process is built on the principle of “Hub and Spoke”, which contributes to the creation of a holistic learning system, optimization of resources and increased mobility of students and specialists.
For further development of the university, it’s planned to reconstruct the buildings of former colleges in Yunusabad district of Tashkent city and Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region and transform them into full-fledged campuses.
