On March 24, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the progress of construction on a major sports facility in New Tashkent — a modern football stadium.
The foundation stone of this modern sports complex was laid by the Head of State on November 11 of last year.
Currently, construction of the stadium is progressing at an accelerated pace. Site grading has been completed in full, while foundation works are 95 percent complete. Steel structures are being delivered to the site in phases.
In recent years, domestic football has undergone significant transformation. In particular, the system of national competitions has been reformed, children’s and youth academies have been established, and 75 large and 302 mini stadiums are now operating across the regions.
In 2017, only three stadiums in the country met FIFA and Asian Football Confederation requirements. Today, that number exceeds ten.
In addition, football stadiums at 1,500 schools have been renovated, enabling over one million students and young people in mahallas to take part in the sport. Regular youth tournaments are now held at the mahalla, district, regional, and national levels.
These efforts are beginning to yield results.
The national Olympic football team participated in the Paris Olympic Games for the first time, while the national team’s qualification for this year’s World Cup marks an unprecedented achievement in the country’s history.
On October 2 last year, at a FIFA Council meeting, it was decided to hold the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
Three stadiums in each country will host matches of the tournament. One of FIFA’s requirements is that the semifinal and final matches be held in stadiums with a capacity of more than 50,000 spectators.
The New Tashkent stadium, a significant project for the country’s football, is being built for this purpose. The location was chosen in view of New Tashkent’s future role as a center of new opportunities and progressive ideas.
The new stadium in Tashkent is being built in accordance with FIFA requirements. The complex is expected to become one of the largest football stadiums in Asia, with modern infrastructure.
This facility will serve not only as a venue for the 2027 U-20 World Cup but also for the future development of Uzbek football and youth sports.
The Head of State was presented with detailed information on the progress of construction.
The New Tashkent stadium, with a capacity of 55,000 spectators, will have six floors. All necessary conditions are being created not only for athletes, but also for visitors and media representatives. More than ten escalators will be installed to ensure convenient and efficient access for spectators. Three additional training fields will be located on the adjacent territory. A metro station will be built next to the stadium, along with a parking facility for 5,500 vehicles.
The President particularly emphasized that this is the first covered stadium of such capacity to be built in the country, underscoring the importance of paying close attention to every detail. He noted the need to begin planning the landscaping of the adjacent territory and to implement it consistently, in stages.
