The metro plays a major role in public transport of the capital. In order to increase the coverage of this mode of transport, an elevated metro was created on the initiative of the President.
In recent years, the first stage of this major project has been completed and the Sergeli line has been opened. This year, the second stage has been completed – an above-ground line has been built from the Kuylyuk massif to the Sergeli district.
Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the new line and took a ride on the subway with members of the public.
“When we started this project in 2017, there were those who did not believe in its success. Then, thanks to the Almighty, the underground and aboveground metro were connected and formed a ring. Yes, it wasn’t easy. But this is the way that will serve our people, will remain in history. If our people, our children will be satisfied with the state when they use it, then we will have achieved our goal,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
In the second stage, 12 kilometers of viaducts were built and 7 stations were constructed. The journey time from the beginning to the end of the line will be 15 minutes. More than 40 thousand passengers will be served daily.
In total, the length of the Tashkent metro has exceeded 70 kilometers. Of these, 38 kilometers were built after 1977, and 32 kilometers of track have been laid over the past 7 years. The number of stations has reached 50. It is expected that the number of daily passengers will increase to 750 thousand people.
In addition, the capital has received a thousand new buses this year. As a result, up to 1.4 million passengers use public transport every day. All this is an important factor in reducing the need for private transport and congestion on the roads.
