Additional Opportunities in Geological Industry Identified

01 Aug 2023

On August 1, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation of measures aimed at increasing reserves and developing mineral resources.

In our country, thanks to the special attention to the geological sphere and the introduction of modern technologies, the opportunities for discovering underground resources have expanded. Foreign investors have started to invest their capital in projects of developing and processing these resources.

Over the past six years, 15 new kaolin processing projects worth $148 million have been launched. As a result, the output volume of finished kaolin products has almost doubled, with exports reaching $65 million. During the same period, coal production increased by 1,4 times, reaching 5,4 million tons.

The presentation also focused on geological plans, including the increase of uranium, kaolin and coal reserves.

It was noted that the planned coal production for this year is 6,7 million tons.

Currently, 33 kaolin projects worth $620 million are being implemented. As a result of production of high value-added products from this raw material, it is planned to increase kaolin exports to $81 million this year and $180 million by 2030.

In addition, joint geological exploration work with foreign companies will continue to build up uranium reserves.

The President drew the attention of the responsible officials to the opportunities for further improving performance in these areas. The task has been set to increase production by effectively using the existing raw material base, unique technologies and human resources.

Instructions were given to accelerate geological exploration work by transferring 5 promising coal sites in Surkhandarya to the private sector, and to introduce technologies to improve the quality and sorting of coal mined in Angren.

The need to explore new kaolin deposits and increase their reserves to 200 million tons, and to expand the number of projects for processing of this raw material was highlighted.

Measures to attract foreign investors in the development of hydrothermal and black shale uranium deposits were defined.
