07 Mar 2024

On March 7, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to discuss measures to increase the income of the population and reduce the level of poverty in makhallas.

A number of economic programs aimed at reducing unemployment are being implemented in our country. Small businesses and entrepreneurship are being actively supported and new enterprises are being opened in various regions. Vocational institutions and monocentres “Ishga marhamat” train the population in modern specialties and foreign languages.

This year, it is planned to provide jobs for 5 million people and to attract 2 million people to business activities. For this purpose, the government has created all necessary organizational and financial conditions.

In particular, 16 trillion Uzbek soums were allocated for this purpose. In addition, funds of 1,4 trillion Uzbek soums will be channelled from the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction, the Agency for the Work of Makhallabay and the Council of Farmers.

The main challenge now is to make effective use of local opportunities to generate income for the population.

In accordance with the instructions of the President, new effective mechanisms are being developed based on the examples of the Galla-aral and Sharof Rashidov districts of the Jizzakh region, which will be further implemented in all regions.

At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister – the Minister of Economy and Finance J.Kuchkarov outlined proposals to identify new opportunities in the mentioned areas and their implementation.

Organizations of the economic complex will be assigned to each makhalla. They will work specifically with low-income families in the subordinate makhallas and help to increase people’s income. Affordable credit, grants and concessional resources will be allocated primarily to poverty reduction. Measures will also be taken to legalize informal businesses and to provide formal employment.

The Council of Farmers, Dehkan Farms and Landowners will organize the cultivation of high-yield crops on household plots of the population in cooperation with the leaders of the makhallas.

The importance of educating the population on ways to increase income by teaching them to work with new equipment and by explaining the market requirements was emphasized.

The opinions of Ministers and hokims were heard at the meeting. The Heads of regions have been given instructions to organize similar activities in the underdeveloped districts and to take measures to reduce unemployment in each makhalla.
