Measures on strenthening the role of theatres in society’s cultural life determined

On November 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the presentation of proposals on the development of culture and art, particularly on further support for theaters and increasing their importance in the cultural life of society.

The issue was raised at a meeting of the Republican Council on Spirituality and Enlightenment held last December 22. The responsible persons presented information on the measures elaborated.

Thus, in 2025-2030 it is planned to create a cycle of 32 plays on the themes “National Hero” and “In the name of honor and dignity of man”.

Proposals were presented to support creative cooperation in creating stage works, dramaturgy and directing. In particular, it is proposed to establish the Mahmudkhodji Behbudi Award for playwrights and the Bakhodir Yuldashev Award for young directors, launch the “Nigoh” creative project and hold a competition for composers of academic music.

It was noted that in order to strengthen the relationship between culture, art and education, it is necessary to expand practical training in theaters, establish the placement of orders for scientific research on theater.

A school of excellence for actors and theater directors, theater critics and art historians will be established. Clubs of theater critics and playwrights will be organized and their activities will be supported. Non-state theaters will also receive annual state orders.

Amateur theater groups will be created in general and higher educational institutions, and competitions will be organized between them. The program “Theatre – School of Life” will be implemented, envisaging regular visits to theaters by young people.

Starting next year, a national rating of theater groups in Uzbekistan will be compiled. Buildings of theaters in the regions will be thoroughly repaired and modernized with the use of modern technologies. The State Musical Theater named after Mukimi will be given the status of an academic theater.

In addition, special attention at the presentation was paid to incentivizing the workers of the sphere.  From 2025, the salaries of workers of culture, art, information-library and museum business will be increased.

Material interest of employees will be linked to their performance indicators (KPI), considering such criteria as provision of cultural services to the population, especially tours in remote regions, creation of new works and identification of talented young people.

Also, starting from 2025, the salaries of the employees of the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan will be significantly increased. The orchestra’s staff will annually create new musical works under state orders, schools of mastery for talented conductors and orchestra performers will be organized, the orchestra will tour the country’s regions and abroad, as well as concerts for employees of large enterprises and organizations.

At the same time, the President instructed to raise the level of education in the sphere of culture and art to a new level. The tasks have been set to develop a unified system of identification, selection, training and education of talented young people, to ensure consistency of curricula and programs in the system of general, extracurricular, vocational and higher education, as well as in cultural and art institutions.
