President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on preparations for major international events planned in Bukhara.

The Head of State emphasized that the upcoming events should not only showcase Bukhara’s rich historical heritage and modern potential but also contribute to the region’s development. Preparations should extend beyond the event venues. Transport, the service sector, security systems, and urban infrastructure must also be developed comprehensively.

The meeting addressed preparations for high-level meetings and major international events. Each ministry and agency was tasked with preparing a substantive agenda for discussions with foreign partners in their respective fields, presenting the practical results of reforms in Uzbekistan, and developing new joint initiatives.

Particular attention was paid to ensuring public safety. Plans to establish modern situation centers in Bukhara, use digital technologies to monitor public places and tourist sites, manage traffic, and combat cybercrime were discussed. The need to strengthen cooperation between prevention inspectors and the “mahalla seven” in preventing crime was also noted.

The President noted that visitors’ first impressions of Bukhara are formed at the airport, railway stations, and along the roads. In this regard, the meeting considered progress on the construction of a new $300 million international airport, a 23.5-kilometer road connecting it to the city, and landscaping of the surrounding areas. The President instructed officials to improve railway station areas, parking facilities, lighting, services, and public transport operations. An additional 120 buses are planned to be deployed to improve transport connections between cities and districts and railway stations.

The meeting also addressed plans to expand green spaces, taking into account Bukhara’s climate. Alongside planting trees and shrubs, participants discussed the irrigation and drainage systems needed to maintain them.

The importance of using international events to attract investment and expand economic cooperation was emphasized. Proposals to reach concrete agreements with foreign partners on industrial cooperation, high-value-added production, transport, logistics, and exports were considered. Renewable energy projects in the region, along with the development of electricity transmission and storage infrastructure, were also discussed.

Alongside showcasing Bukhara’s historical and cultural heritage and tourism opportunities more widely, the meeting emphasized the importance of giving visitors a firsthand look at the operations of modern enterprises and achievements in agriculture, craftsmanship, and the service sector. Officials were also tasked with demonstrating tangible progress in employment, household incomes, healthcare, and culture.

The Head of State emphasized that every facility and system established during the preparations must continue to serve the people of Bukhara Region after the events conclude. Officials were instructed to personally visit project sites, address emerging issues, and ensure close coordination in implementing all tasks.
