On September 25, as part of the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received President of this leading international financial institution Jin Liqun.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the AIIB expressed deep gratitude to the Leader of our country for his full assistance in holding the Bank’s main event in the city of Samarkand and confirmed his strong commitment to further support the irreversible reforms in New Uzbekistan.
Practical aspects of developing full-scale cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank were discussed.
The highest level of cooperation achieved in recent years was noted with satisfaction. The project portfolio exceeded $3 billion, which makes Uzbekistan the main beneficiary of the AIIB in the region and sixth in the world in terms of transaction volumes.
Important projects are being implemented in the fields of transport, energy, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, public utilities, as well as entrepreneurship development.
The President of Uzbekistan put forward an initiative to begin preparing a Strategic Partnership Program with the AIIB in infrastructure development until 2030.
The following areas have been identified as priorities: poverty reduction, construction of New Tashkent, support for public-private partnership projects and the private sector, support for reforms in the field of education, modernization of water, transport and energy infrastructure.
Particular attention is paid to the promotion of large infrastructure projects in the Central Asian region.
At the end of the meeting, in the presence of the Head of our State, an updated road map until 2026 with promising projects worth over $4 billion was signed.
