In the afternoon, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his spouse, accompanied by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse, got acquainted with the sights of Shusha city.
Shusha is called the main pearl of Karabakh, the temple of Caucasian art, and the cradle of Azerbaijani music. The city is the home of a number of prominent figures in science, culture, and the arts.
Since 2021, Shusha has been the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, and in 2023, it was declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world.
This year, Khiva and Shusha became twin cities.
The high-ranking guests began their tour with a visit to the Saatli Mosque, which was built in 1883.
Thereupon, the Heads of state visited the photo gallery «Heydar Aliyev and Karabakh», which was organized on the occasion of the centenary of the Azerbaijani national leader.
The main town square of Shusha was visited. The busts of prominent cultural figures of Azerbaijan—Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli—were erected here.
The Uzbek side showed great interest in the «Khan Qizi» spring, which served as a source of drinking water for the city; the house-museum of the famous Azerbaijani cultural figure Bulbul; the architectural monument «House of Mehmandarovs», as well as the famous plain tract Cidir Duzu, where equestrian competitions were held.
