On October 2, in the Amiri Diwan complex in Doha, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with the participation of the countries’ official delegations.

The President expressed gratitude to the Emir of Qatar for the invitation and the warm hospitality extended to Uzbekistan’s delegation.

The sides discussed issues on further strengthening the political dialogue, expanding trade and economic cooperation, boosting investments and enhancing cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

It was emphasized that the historic visit of the Emir of Qatar to Samarkand in this June marked a new milestone in the relations between the two countries. Both sides expressed their commitment to elevating Uzbekistan-Qatar cooperation to a higher level of strategic partnership.

With satisfaction, they noted the increasing contacts at various levels, the growth in mutual trade volumes, the establishment of air links between the capitals, and the initiation of joint projects with major Qatari companies.

The opening of the Uzbekistan Embassy in Doha on the eve of the visit is expected to give a powerful impetus to the active promotion of fruitful partnership.

The successful implementation of the state program “Vision 2030” in Qatar, which is in line with the goals and objectives of the Strategy for the Development of the New Uzbekistan was appreciated. A commitment was confirmed to significantly increase trade indicators and practically implement joint investment projects in traditional and “green” energy, petrochemicals, deep metal processing, agriculture, construction, tourism, finance, and other areas.

To further enhance business ties, it was proposed organizing the first meetings of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Business Council, and a Business Forum in January 2024 in Doha.

Both sides expressed their willingness to comprehensively support efforts aimed at intensifying cultural, educational, and tourist exchanges.

It was noted that Uzbekistan is interested in deepening cooperation with Qatari scientific and educational institutions, conducting joint research in the fields of biotechnology and artificial intelligence, as well as green energy. An agreement was reached to hold the Uzbekistan Culture and Tourism Week in Doha.

Current global and regional issues were also under discussion. The importance of supporting the practical advancement of the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project was noted. The sides agreed on the importance of continuing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people to ensure peace and stability in the country.

Following the meeting, the heads of state instructed the preparation of a series of joint “roadmaps” and the establishment of mechanisms for the effective implementation of the agreements reached. As an outcome of the meeting, a solid package of documents aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation was signed.
