Andijan is the country’s most densely populated city: 10 percent of Uzbekistan’s population lives in just 1 percent of its territory. In this regard, on the initiative of the President, construction of a new city was launched in 2021. During the current trip, the Head of State got acquainted with the first results of the realization of this large-scale project.
The city is being built on a free, previously unused for agriculture territory of 4 thousand hectares in Andijan district. The construction will be carried out in eight stages. To date, 63 multi-storey buildings for 1,770 apartments have been commissioned. A school for 1,680 places, a kindergarten for 420 places, a polyclinic for 250 appointments per shift, a light industry enterprise and a mortgage center have also been built.
The President walked through the territory of the new city and inspected the constructed facilities.
Many apartments have already been occupied. The joy of children on playgrounds fills the atmosphere with special warmth and coziness. Construction continues at an accelerated pace – this year it is planned to build 40 more multi-storey houses for more than 1 thousand apartments.
The objects are provided with the necessary infrastructure – roads, electricity, natural gas, water supply and heating. A water reservoir and a distribution station with a capacity of 4 thousand cubic meters for drinking water supply have been put into operation.
The “Yangi Uzbekiston” park has been laid out on an area of 19 hectares, where over 10 thousand ornamental trees, shrubs and flowers have been planted. The park has an amphitheater, recreation areas, walkways, cafes, playgrounds and a modern lighting system. This park will become one of the decorations of New Andijan.
The park “Vatanparvar” located here has a special symbolic significance. The monument “Oath to Motherland”, museum, concert and spectacle grounds will make a deep impression on the guests.
The project is characterized by great scope. On the territory of 1,439 hectares it is planned to erect 2 thousand apartment houses. In addition, commercial and service facilities will be built, as well as green areas will be arranged on the area of 1,820 hectares. After completion of construction the city will be able to accommodate over 410 thousand residents.
New improvement projects were also presented here. In particular, it is planned to reconstruct the park named after Alisher Navoi and install a monument to Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur. The President emphasized the importance of creating an authentic image of Babur and transforming the adjacent territory into a theme park dedicated to the Baburid heritage.
The Head of State also viewed exhibitions of folk crafts, decorative and applied arts. He proposed an initiative to organize an annual festival of artists in Andijan.
