On May 14, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a UN delegation led by Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Sima Sami Bahous.
The UN delegation is visiting our country as part of the program of the Asian Women’s Forum, the events of which were held in Samarkand.
The Head of the United Nations system’s leading institute for gender equality conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes of Secretary-General António Guterres to the Head of our state.
The reforms effectively implemented in Uzbekistan to fundamentally improve the position and status of women in society were highly appreciated.
During the meeting, the issues of further deepening the constructive partnership of our country with the UN Women structure were considered.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan has acceded to all the major international conventions on the protection of the rights and promotion of the interests of women and actively participates in the work of the relevant United Nations Commission.
The fruitful outcomes of the Asian Women’s Forum were highly appreciated. The importance of transforming it into a permanent platform for dialogue on women’s empowerment in the Asian region was noted.
The need to adopt a medium term Bilateral Cooperation Program, including specific projects and activities, as well as regional cooperation was noted.
The opening of a UN Women Representative Office in our country was supported.
