President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the activities of the Biochemical Institute of Samarkand State University.
More than 25 thousand students study at the university. The Institute of Agrobiotechnologies and Food Security, the Institute of Engineering Physics, the Research Institute of Turkology, and the Biochemical Institute are organized in the structure of the University.
The Biochemical Institute was established this year on the basis of the Faculties of Biology and Chemistry of the University. Seven new buildings have been constructed for the Institute after extensive construction activities. These are 2 academic buildings with over a thousand seats, a meeting room, a greenhouse, a vivarium, a laboratory for biological research, a herbarium – a laboratory for botanical research, and a student canteen.
In particular, researchers from both disciplines will be able to carry out their research in one place. This will take work on the mutual integration of biological and chemical innovations to a new level.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev examined conditions in classrooms, greenhouses, and scientific laboratories. He conversed with professors and teachers.
Researchers told him about plans to create new types of selective anti-cancer drugs based on the chemical transformation of oncological drugs.
The President gave instructions on the organization of internships abroad for the Institute’s employees, the development of pharmaceutical and chemical products, and the creation of new varieties of cotton, grapes, and wheat.
Today, the Biochemical Institute educates 2.8 thousand students in 8 fields of education. In total, the University has 12 scientific and 67 teaching laboratories.
