Uzbekistan and the World Bank Consolidate Strategic Partnership

On September 20, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the President of the World Bank Group Ajay Banga in New York City.

The meeting was focused on key aspects of expanding full-scale cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank.

At the beginning of the conversation, the Head of our State congratulated Ajay Banga on the commencement of his work as President of the World Bank Group and expressed confidence that under his leadership the Bank will continue to actively promote sustainable economic growth of developing countries.

The sides discussed the issues of increasing the Bank’s expert and technical assistance by the Bank in the areas of privatization and effective public administration, financing and attracting private investment, including on the basis of public-private partnerships, in projects on decarbonization, alternative energy, infrastructure and communications, water supply, as well as support for such strategic initiatives as the construction of the Trans-Afghan Railway.

In turn, Ajay Banga highly appreciated the ongoing program of irreversible reforms in our country and expressed willingness to further develop mutually beneficial partnership.

An agreement has been reached on the participation of the Bank’s Advisory Council of leading world business leaders in the development of measures to increase the inflow of direct investments in Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan is one of the largest beneficiary partners of the Bank, the portfolio of joint projects has grown more than five times over the past six years.

The current Program of Cooperation until 2026, which envisages the implementation of projects worth $4 billion , covers all priorities of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy.
