On July 1, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the proposals on the preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic games.

As is known, our country’s athletes achieved significant success at the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, taking 13th place in the overall medal standings in both competitions. At a meeting on February 13 this year, the task was set to develop the Olympic movement in the country even more actively and qualitatively prepare for the next competitions. In this regard, a draft decree on preparations for the XXXIV Summer Olympic Games and XVIII Paralympic Games to be held in 2028 in Los Angeles (USA) was developed.

The draft decree defines 10 priority tasks. Among them are enhanced development of sports with a differentiated approach to developed, promising and developing sports, expansion of the geography of effective sports, transparent selection of talented young people from the lowest levels, creation of national training methods based on international experience, organization of training camps of national teams with a focus on a specific goal and result, strengthening their material and technical base, expanding cooperation with international sports organizations and others.

A program and targets for the preparation of athletes for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are also being developed.

For the systematic organization of work in this area, 14 regional branches have been established within the National Olympic Committee. The Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the khokims of the regions and the city of Tashkent will become special representatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the development of the Olympic movement.

Responsible persons from the Ministry of Sport and the Olympic Committee will be assigned to each region.

The main goal is not just preparation for one Olympics, but the formation of a sustainable and long-term system. A three-stage competition “Olympic Peaks of New Uzbekistan” will be launched to select and professionally train talented athletes starting from the lowest level. The final stage of the competition will be held annually in the Olympic city under the name “Presidential Olympics”. Winners and prize-winners will be accepted for training in Olympic centers.

The activity of the Republican Olympic and Paralympic Center will be aimed at forming the reserve of the national teams. From 2026, its financing will be transferred to the republican budget. The center will function as a school for pupils of 8-11 grades and a college for students of 1-2 years with the expansion of the admission quota. Scholarship of the Ministry of sport is envisaged for the students of 1-2 courses. The sports facilities of the Olympic Campus will be provided free of charge to the center for training.

In order to expand the pool of athletes, the work of private sports clubs will be improved and they will be granted the right to participate in official competitions. Athletes who have achieved high results will be able to join the national teams.

Various forms of encouragement for athletes and coaches are also envisaged. In particular, winners and medalists of prestigious competitions will be enrolled in higher military educational institutions without entrance exams. Coaches who have trained successful athletes at the initial stage will also receive additional payments.

The Head of State gave instructions to efficiently organize the activities of sports federations, develop infrastructure in the regions, and provide comprehensive support to athletes and coaches.
