During his trip to Bukhara Region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremony marking the commissioning of new facilities and the start of construction on promising projects.

For many centuries, Bukhara has been a center of science, culture, and craftsmanship. Today, the creative traditions established by our ancestors are embodied in the construction of modern production facilities and the development of entrepreneurship and tourism.

The Head of State noted that over the past nine years, $9.5 billion in foreign investment has been attracted to the region, more than 6,000 new production facilities have been established, and 120,000 permanent jobs have been created. These results are reflected in growing employment and household incomes, as well as the expansion of export markets for local enterprises.

“Today, drawing on its great historical heritage, Bukhara is rapidly entering an era of new development and major projects,” the President noted.

A program of 145 projects with a total value of $7.8 billion has been developed. They cover petrochemicals, the textile industry, building materials production, machine building, energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, digital technologies, logistics, agriculture, the food industry, housing construction, infrastructure, services, and tourism. Fifty-five projects worth $654 million are being commissioned, while construction is starting on another 90 projects worth $7.1 billion.

Investors from the United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, China, Vietnam, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and India, as well as the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and domestic entrepreneurs, are participating in the projects.

According to forecasts, the implementation of these projects will create more than 14,000 jobs, generate annual production worth 22 trillion soums, and ensure exports worth $510 million.

“Our goal is to produce goods that will replace imports and be in demand in foreign markets,” the President said.

The region is also actively expanding its energy capacity. In recent years, $2 billion in investment has been attracted to the green energy sector. Wind and solar power plants with capacities of 1,000 megawatts and 750 megawatts, respectively, as well as energy storage systems with a capacity of 63 megawatts, have been commissioned. A total of 601 kilometers of main power transmission lines have been constructed.

In Gijduvan district, construction of the 300-megawatt Bosh-2 wind power plant is underway with the participation of ACWA. In Jandar and Peshku districts, Toyota Corporation and Sinoma are building wind power plants with a combined capacity of 1,000 megawatts. In addition, a $165 million project to generate electricity from household waste is planned in Kagan district with Chinese partners. A $150 million project with the German company Leman is also scheduled to begin to ensure the reliable operation of pumping stations along the Amu-Bukhara canal.

Building on the region’s experience in growing high-quality cotton, modern textile clusters are being developed. In the city of Bukhara, plans call for the construction of a textile complex under the Kurt Baver brand, designed to produce 62,000 tons of products annually. In Romitan district, a $400 million cotton-textile cluster is being established with the participation of Chinese investors. As part of these projects, investors have also proposed developing 9,000 hectares of land. This will increase the share of high-value-added products to 65 percent and create additional export opportunities worth $100 million.

Tourism is another important area of Bukhara’s development.

“The combination of ancient monuments, cultural heritage, and modern infrastructure makes Bukhara one of the most popular destinations for tourists. The new Bukhara tourist center, where today’s event is taking place, is designed to serve this important purpose,” the Head of State noted.

The center will include the Boqiy Buxoro cultural and ethnographic park, an exhibition hall, modern hotels, and cultural and entertainment facilities. In addition, hotels under the international Indigo, Holiday Inn, and Hilton brands are planned in the city of Bukhara.

“Overall, we will begin implementing 19 major projects in Bukhara with a total value of $3 billion. If we organize this work systematically, Bukhara alone will be able to generate $5 billion in tourism service exports,” the President emphasized.

Over the next five years, plans call for providing the entire population of Bukhara Region with drinking water and major cities and district centers with sewerage networks. Implementation of two major projects worth a total of $633 million has already begun in cooperation with international partners. These projects will improve water supply for 2 million residents and provide 781,000 people with access to drinking water for the first time.

In addition, seven road projects worth $565 million are planned to triple the region’s transit potential.

By pressing a symbolic button, the President launched the new facilities and marked the start of construction on promising projects. He also spoke with foreign investors.

The Head of State also heard reports on preparations for Bukhara’s infrastructure for the summits scheduled for 2027 and issued relevant instructions.
