The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the high-mountain cluster “Medeu.”
The leader of our country was acquainted with the history of the creation and architectural features of the “Medeu” dam, built at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level to protect against mudslides.
Leading to the top of the “Medeu” dam is the “Stairway of Health,” consisting of 842 steps. In 2011, a 4.5-kilometer-long cable car was built from the dam to the “Shymbulak” ski resort.
The “Medeu” sports complex was constructed in 1972 and is located at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level. The ice field of the complex covers an area of 10,5 thousand square meters and can accommodate up to 3 thousand people. Each year, it is visited by more than 400 thousand residents and guests of Almaty.
Currently, the complex functions as a sports, tourist, and cultural cluster. It regularly hosts sports competitions, public ice-skating, cultural events and festivals.
In 2011, it was the venue for the competitions of the VII Winter Asian Games, and in 2017 – the World Winter Universiade competitions.
The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan jointly watched exhibition performances by young figure skaters.
