President Proposes New Partnership Directions with the UAE

On June 10, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a UAE delegation led by Minister of Government Affairs Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi.

The sides discussed the topical issues of further development of the Uzbek-Emirati multifaceted cooperation and enriching it with new practical substance.

Minister Muhammad al-Gergawiy expressed sincere greetings and best wishes to Shavkat Mirziyoyev from the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister, Emir of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum.

It was stressed that the Emirates Government fully supports the large-scale reforms and transformation program ongoing in the New Uzbekistan and is willing to provide required assistance in ensuring its effective implementation.

The dynamic development of the Uzbek-Emirati relations has been noteworthy in recent years. The indicators of trade turnover and investments have been on the rise. Indeed, the volumes of mutual trade have doubled since the beginning of this year alone, with 45 new joint ventures set up in Uzbekistan.

Under an umbrella of an effective system of coordination and promotion of economic collaboration, 17 major projects are being implemented with investments of about $3 billion with the engagement of leading companies and organizations of the Emirates.

In partnership with Mubadala Company, a project to expand the capacity of Talimarjan Thermal Power Plant is being implemented, with Masdar – the construction of wind and solar power stations in the regions.

With the leading company DP World the sides are working on the development of multimodal hub and economic zone Navoiy, as well as modernization of customs administration system.

In addition, various major projects are being implemented in the agriculture, healthcare, logistics, digitalization and other areas.

During the negotiations, the practical results of cooperation in improving the efficiency of public administration, as well as within the «One Million Coders» project and the Social and Economic Reforms Accelerator activity were noted with great satisfaction.

The interactions in the innovations and artificial intelligence, deepening the dialogue on reforming key sectors and further improvement of the public administration, training modern personnel were defined as the new directions of the long-term partnership.

An agreement was reached on the adoption of a joint «roadmap» for the full-scale implementation of the decisions made and initiatives put forward at the meeting.
