On April 9, 2019, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Netherlands Dilyor Khakimov visited the Wageningen University headquarter – one of the leading agricultural universities in the world.
Negotiations were held with Rector Magnificus and Vice-President of the University Arthur Mol, as well as with Communications Advisor International Ben Geerlings, Senior expert EU research programmes and funding Vanya van der Grift-Simeonova and Senior Researcher Irina Verweij-Novikova.
Uzbekistan’s proposals on development of a feasibility study for creation of a horticultural innovation and education center in Uzbekistan were discussed. It was noted that Dutch innovative technologies and production of high-value products based on them can be introduced in Uzbekistan with the support of international financial institutions.
The parties agreed to implement a joint project to assess the potential of crop production in Uzbekistan with creation of a center, where the leading role will be played by Wageningen University. The project provides for preparation of a feasibility study to get an idea of possibilities of creating with participation of Uzbekistan, Netherlands and international partners of an innovation-education center to support the sustainable development of horticultural sector in Uzbekistan.
