On March 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Current issues of bilateral agenda and regional interaction were reviewed.
At the beginning of the conversation, the leaders of the countries exchanged heartfelt congratulations on the upcoming spring holiday of Navruz, sincerely wished each other health, wellbeing and success, as well as peace and prosperity to the brotherly people of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The dynamic development of Uzbek-Turkmen multifaceted relations based on the principles of friendship, trust, good neighborliness and strategic partnership was noted with deep satisfaction.
In 2024, mutual trade turnover amounted to over $1 billion. Mutually beneficial cooperation is developing and cooperation is deepening in the fields of industry, energy, transport, agriculture and water management, and other sectors of the economy. The cross-border trade zone “Shavat – Dashoguz” is being jointly created, events are being held within the framework of active interregional contacts and a rich program of cultural and humanitarian exchange.
The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan separately focused on issues of regional partnership, preparation and holding of important forums and conferences. A thorough exchange of views took place on the agenda of the upcoming summits in the “Central Asia Plus” format in the city of Samarkand and the next Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region in the city of Tashkent.
The Head of our state especially noted the importance of the upcoming Forum in Ashgabat in December this year within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations on the initiative of Turkmenistan, as well as other international events.
