On May 31, 2020, incident occurred on the Chashma section of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz State border between residents of the border regions.
A study of incident causes was held by officials of both parties. Results showed that the conflict between individual citizens took place during the joint cleaning of Chashma spring’s water outflow.
There are casualties from both sides. They received necessary medical assistance.
The situation is under control. This became known following the negotiations of the heads of border areas. Parties agreed to not to maintain cleaning works without prior notification.
Noteworthy that Chashma spring provides drinkable and irrigation water to the residents of both Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Taking into account mutual interests, there is an agreement on the joint use of the Chashma spring.
On June 1, 2020 at 9 a.m., Prime-Minister of Uzbekistan A.Aripov met with Acting Head of the Government of Kyrgyzstan K.Boronov.
During the meeting sides discussed a range of issues of bilateral cooperation. Parties agreed to develop cross-border cooperation and resolve issues arising at the border in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership, as well as in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement on Confidence-Building Measures at the Border, signed on October 6, 2017.
The Heads of Governments agreed to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Council of Khokims of the border regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and plenipotentiaries of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the border regions in the near future.
Heads of delegations of two countries held a meeting with local residents.
