21 Jun 2022

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan held a media briefing on the outcomes of talks.

The President, sincerely welcoming the Azerbaijani delegation, has stressed that the glorious history of relations between the two nations has now created a solid foundation for the development of multifaceted cooperation.

We have common spiritual values, religion, similar culture and language – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.  The scientific works of Akhmad Fergani and Abu Raykhan Beruniy mention many cities of Azerbaijan, where there was a mutual influence of Oriental and Western civilizations. Meanwhile, more than 10 unique manuscripts of Azerbaijani poets and intellectuals, such as Nizamiy, Khaganiy, Tusi, Fizuliy, Khatai and others are carefully preserved in the funds of the Institute of Oriental Studies.

The President has stressed that this is yet another evidence of the fact that the Uzbek people have always had a great respect and interest for Azerbaijani culture.

During the talks in a narrow and extended formats, we have discussed in detail the issues of bilateral agenda. The negotiations have demonstrated again that we are willing to continue to enhance the all-round interactions for the benefit of our two nations. We have just signed a solid package of documents. Among them is the Declaration on deepening strategic partnership and enhancing all-round cooperation, which opens up a new stage in bilateral relations. We have also identified key areas of interaction, has said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It has been noted that the most important priority in terms of collaboration is to increase trade and industrial cooperation. In recent years, the trade turnover has grown considerably. The number of joint ventures and projects has grown to four times.

The parties are sure that there are the ample opportunities for a radical intensification of interactions, especially the factor of complementarity of the economies.

An example is the launch of joint car production in Hajigabul and expansion of cooperation in silkworm manufacture. The dozens of new projects in the mining industry, petrochemistry, pharmaceuticals, production of construction materials, ready-made textiles, foodstuff, jewelry and wine-making are elaborated.

Another strategic direction is development of transport communications. Today, the volume of cargo transportation, including the railroad «Baku-Tbilisi-Kars» is increasing. The parties have agreed to develop the new corridors, increase multimodal transportations and create favorable conditions for transport enterprises.

Against the rising climate challenges and problems of food security, a special attention was paid at the discussions to further development of cooperation in the agriculture. It was decided to actively share scientific and innovative developments, establish cooperation in the digitalization of the agricultural sector, and implement investment projects.

A particular attention at the talks was paid to stirring up the interregional ties. The first Forum of Regions to be held in Tashkent this autumn will help deepen them.

In the cultural and humanitarian fields the two countries and peoples have had a lot in common since the ancient times. On the outcomes of the discussions, a decision was made to hold mutual Days of Culture and Cinema, to actively develop humanitarian and tourist exchange programs.

The outcomes of the historic state visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan are truly breakthrough. We have set all the conditions today for further consolidation of friendship between the two brotherly peoples and enhancement of strategic partnership between our countries, has stressed the President.

President Ilham Aliyev, expressing gratitude for the invitation, said he was delighted with the success of Uzbekistan.

I am very pleased to be in the brotherly land of Uzbekistan, to have the opportunity to discuss with you a wide range of bilateral relations and important issues of foreign policy agenda, said President Ilham Aliyev.  I believe it is in fact a breakthrough visit. Since, in terms of substance, form and content of the topics discussed, and the decisions we have made, this visit and agreements shall form the basis for the future development of our relations.

The signed documents and the implementation of today’s tasks will make the relations between the two countries even stronger, has said the President of Azerbaijan.

Today we had a conversation about economic interactions, contacts between businesses, security and defense issues and the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian ties. In other words, in a broad sense, the foundation is being laid for our active interactions, has said the President of Azerbaijan.

The Presidents have noted the constructive spirit of the dialogue and the importance of mutual support at the international organizations.
