During the visit to the social services center in Andijan region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation on developing sports sphere and promoting the Olympic movement.
Today more than 10 million citizens of Uzbekistan are actively engaged in mass sports. Various sports competitions are held in districts, educational institutions and workplaces.
The objective – bring this indicator to 15 million. For this purpose tournaments like “Mahalla league”, “School league”, “Students’ league”, “The minister’s cup” and “Labor union’s cup”.
At a meeting held on February 13 this year, the President gave instructions to select and improve the skills of young athletes. Accordingly, work has begun to bring the system of selection, sports education and Olympic training to a new level.
The key role in this process will be played by 254 sports schools operating in the regions, as well as 56 specialized schools in Olympic areas – they will become the main base for the national teams. Young talents selected locally will undergo targeted training based on anthropometric data and physical abilities.
To further develop their skills, a series of competitions called “Olympic Peaks of New Uzbekistan” will be held twice a year. The winners of the regional stages will take part in the “Presidential Olympiad”, which will be held annually in the Olympic City in December. The winners will be awarded valuable prizes such as housing and cars. The first and second place winners will have the right to study at the Republican Olympic and Paralympic Centers.
The President emphasized the importance of improving the vertical system of sports education, introducing advanced methods and approaches. Instructions have been given to improve the efficiency of sports schools and train talented youth to the level of high-class athletes.
