President of Uzbekistan meets with UNESCO Director-General

On March 12 in the framework of the agenda of the state visit to France President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Audrey Azoulay.

Issues of further development of effective interaction with this authoritative structure of the UN system, as well as practical aspects of preparation and holding the 43rd session of the General Conference of the Organization in Samarkand this autumn were discussed.

The current highest level of multifaceted partnership was noted with satisfaction.

At Uzbekistan’s initiative, resolutions were adopted on access to information and children’s education.

Our country became a member of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property. Bukhara has joined the Creative Cities Network. A UNESCO department was opened at the Silk Road University in Samarkand.

Last year 7 new projects were launched in the spheres of education, culture and innovative technologies.

The special UNESCO lists include Turan Deserts and Zarafshan-Karakum corridor, silk art, ceramics, playing the rubab and iftar traditions, “Archive of Bukhara Emir’s Office”, “Turkestan Album” and “Khudoybergan Devonov’s Photo Album”.

It should be noted that this year the city of Samarkand will host the 43rd session of the General Conference, which for the first time in 40 years will be held outside the UNESCO headquarters in Paris and taking place in the year of the 80th anniversary of the organization.

Director General Audrey Azoulay, highly appreciating the fruitful cooperation with Uzbekistan, thanked the Head of our state for large-scale preparations for the upcoming event.

Agreements have been reached to further expand practical cooperation programs, as well as continue close interaction in organizing forums and events on the margins of the 43rd session of the General Conference of UNESCO.
