In the framework of SOR29 events in Baku, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Director General and Chairman of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Carlos Rodríguez.
Current issues of expanding practical cooperation with the Facility in the field of climate sustainability and ecosystem protection in Uzbekistan were deliberated upon.
The sides noted with satisfaction the GEF’s significant contribution to the implementation of projects on biodiversity conservation, natural resources management, adaptation to climate change in our country.
The joint project portfolio exceeded $100 million.
Particular attention was paid to establishing a regional air quality monitoring network, implementing greening programs and developing ecotourism, preserving endangered animal species, as well as rehabilitating the Aral Sea area.
The sides also exchanged views on holding major international events in Uzbekistan next year, including a meeting of Global Environment Facility donors.
