02 Feb 2023

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is on a working visit to Fergana Region today.

During his visit to the region in May 2022, the President got acquainted with the «Global textile infinity» cluster project. Taking into account the instructions given at that time, the implementation of the project was accelerated and a textile production facility was put into operation in December last year.

The President got acquainted with the activities of the enterprise in Kushtepa District.

The complete cycle of harvesting and processing of cotton has been established here. A large factory, worth 132 million euros, is under construction; equipment from Swiss company «Rieter Machine Works» is installed.

The enterprise is capable of producing 18 million meters of mixed fabric and 10 million units of finished production per year. It is planned to export to European countries and China products worth 85 million euros. In this regard, a quality control laboratory is organized at the enterprise.

The President pointed out the need to expand the range of finished products and establish partnerships with famous brands.

It is also important that energy efficient plants are used in the production. Solar panels installed on the roof of the factory allow to achieve almost 23% energy saving.

The factory currently employs 1,500 people. This March, the factory will begin producing woven fabric. In addition, a yarn and fabric production, as well as cotton processing plants are being set up in Uchkuprik District. By then, the total number of jobs in the cluster will reach almost 5 thousand.

A training and home-based labor center has also been opened here, which trains specialists needed by the enterprise in 4 directions.

The President held a meeting on development of the cotton and textile industry in the valley regions.

Over the past six years, 35 clusters have been created in these regions, and more than 150 major projects worth $670 million have been launched.

As it is known, on January 26 this year the President signed a decree on further support for the activities of cotton clusters. According to the document, the clusters are given the possibility of receiving preferential loans for fertilizers, seeds and fuel at any time in order to grow cotton. They are allowed to locate cotton varieties independently and bring productive varieties for breeding from abroad.

Furthermore, 30% of the cost of purchasing laser levels will be covered by the state budget. In order to integrate production and science, each cluster will be assigned scientific organizations in cotton growing and agricultural services centers.

The practical aspects of these supportive measures were discussed at the meeting.

The instructions on increasing the yield of cotton, deep processing of yarn and increasing the output of finished products were given. It was noted that this year there is an opportunity to boost exports of textile products in the valley regions to $2.5 billion.

It was emphasized that in accordance with today’s trend in the sectors of the economy clusters should also transfer some of their energy consumption to alternative sources.
