On November 13, in the framework of the COP29 summit, the signing ceremony of the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of development and transfer of “green” energy between Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan took place.
In his speech, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that renewable energy is not an economic goal, but a contribution to the future, a result of our sense of responsibility before the next generations.
The ecological significance of the project was pointed out. The energy that will be transmitted is wind and solar energy, a renewable and clean source that will mitigate the impact on the climate.
In this manner, the parties support joint efforts for climate protection within the framework of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
It was emphasized that our countries, possessing significant renewable energy resources, can make a significant contribution to the global energy transition.
In this context, the President of our country focused separately on the key aspects of the large-scale work carried out in this direction.
A large program of advanced development of “green” energy has been adopted. About two gigawatts of solar and wind power generation capacity are being commissioned in our country every year.
In addition, by the end of this year, an additional 2.6 gigawatts of renewable generation and 300 megawatts of energy storage systems will be connected to the grid.
By 2030, the plan is to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 40 percent and create 4.2 gigawatts of energy storage systems.
Confidence was expressed that the economic effect of the project will be felt by all its participants.
Tens of thousands of jobs will be created, energy infrastructure will be developed, technological and business ties will expand. And as the main result – the living standards of the population will increase.
The importance of expediting the implementation of the project, including establishing a joint venture, developing and coordinating technical documentation and other procedures was emphasized.
In conclusion, the Head of our state reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to joint implementation of this regional project.
