On 17 February, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Central Asia and Azerbaijan Lord John Alderdice, who is in Uzbekistan on a working visit.
Issues related to the further expansion of the Uzbek–British mutually beneficial partnership, primarily in the trade and economic sphere, were discussed.
The dynamic development of political dialogue and intensive exchanges at all levels were emphasized. Effective cooperation in the field of security has been established.
Over the past 5 years, trade turnover has doubled. Sovereign and corporate bonds of Uzbekistan worth more than $15 billion have been placed on the London Stock Exchange. Last year, the Joint Economic Committee mechanism was launched.
In cooperation with British partners, Presidential Schools have been established, and three joint universities are operating successfully. The number of British tourists visiting Uzbekistan continues to grow.
During the talks, the importance of promoting new projects in the spheres of energy, finance, geology, transport, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, science, and education was noted.
The sides also exchanged views on current regional and global issues.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to adopt a joint roadmap for the further development of multifaceted cooperation.
