Cotton yields double with advanced technologies

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected a cotton field at Agroklaster Oltinkul where Xinjiang technology is used.

Uzbekistan places particular emphasis on advancing agriculture, introducing advanced technologies across the sector and integrating scientific innovations and approaches into production.

The Presidential resolution dated December 9, 2025, aimed at increasing yields in cotton and grain production, has provided an important legal basis for expanding this work.

The use of the Xinjiang method in cotton cultivation not only significantly increases yields but also saves water, fertilizers and other resources while reducing the cost of growing cotton.

Agroklaster Oltinkul has a total cultivated area of 850 hectares. Cotton is grown using the Xinjiang method on 23 hectares.

Under Xinjiang technology, cotton seeds are sown in two rows under film. This helps maintain stable soil moisture and temperature, ensuring early and uniform germination.

Through drip irrigation and fertilizer application systems, water and fertilizers are delivered directly to the roots of the cotton plants. As a result, water consumption is reduced by 40 percent and fertilizer use by nearly 30 percent.

While traditional cultivation methods produce an average yield of 30-35 centners per hectare, Xinjiang technology increases this figure to 60-70 centners. The favorable microclimate created under the film also allows the crop to be harvested 10-15 days earlier than in traditional fields.

Most agricultural operations at the enterprise are carried out using drones. This significantly reduces the need for specialized machinery and lowers fuel consumption.

The Head of State was briefed on the project’s results, its economic efficiency and plans to further expand the use of this technology.
